Dr. Vijay Chandra is the Additional Director & Head, Department of Neurology. A graduate from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, he has a rich and varied experience of over 35 years. He has spent over 12 years in USA studying and teaching at University of Illinois, Johns Hopkins University and National Institutes of Health. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Before joining Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital, Dr. Vijay Chandra was the Regional Advisor- Mental Health, World Health Organization. His main responsibility was to develop and improve clinical services for mental and neurological disorders and substance abuse in 11 countries of South-East Asia. Dr. Chandra was felicitated and presented the "Princess Mental Health Award" by Her Royal Highness, Princess Galyani Vadhana (Princess of Thailand) for creating effective mental health services in South-East Asia. He has also imparted trainings and lectures to a number of clinical fellows in the USA and was awarded the " Golden Apple Award " for the Best Teacher and Faculty Roll of Honor for teaching excellence, University of Illinois, Chicago, USA. He has also been engaged in many epidemiological research projects since 1983 dealing with neurological and psychiatric diseases, dementia, aging, epilepsy, health policy and planning. He has over 50 publications in international journals and many monographs and chapters in books to his credit. Dr. Chandra is one of the foremost experts in the world on memory disorders. He has conducted extensive national and international research on Alzheimer's disease and was the first to point out the role of cholesterol as a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. Fortis Vasant Kunj has started a Memory Disorders Clinic on Saturday (9 am - 5 pm) led by Dr. Chandra with a team of psychiatrists and neuropsychologists.
