She graduated (MBBS), in the year 2002, from the esteemed Andhra Medical College, affiliated to NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Following that, she pursued her career interest in ophthalmology by obtaining her master’s (MS) from the same medical college, in 2007. She trained as a Registrar in Ophthalmology during her postgraduate period. It was during her surgical training that Dr. Mridula completed the basic course in Ophthalmic Diagnostics at “ZEISS ACADEMY FOR ADVANCED OPHTHALMIC EDUCATION” at L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. It was about this time that she attended “hands on” workshops in diagnostic procedures and honed her skills in slit-lamp examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, tonometry, gonioscopy, visual field charting with Humphrey systems, OCT, B – scan, and squint evaluation, to name a few. Attending many screening camps in the rural Vishakapatnam and nearby schools was her passion, where she picked up the nuances of clinical ophthalmology. Having performed innumerable ophthalmological surgeries independently, notably, the conventional cataract surgery, small incision cataract surgery, trabeculectomy, evisceration, enucleation, squint surgeries, oculoplasty procedures, and laser procedures, Dr. Mridula went on to do her Fellowship in General Ophthalmology from the Lions Eye Hospital, Bangalore in 2010 and in Cornea and External Eye Diseases from the Minto Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Bangalore, in 2013. Dr. Mridula was a guide to the interns and junior residents where she held practical sessions for them. She was also keen on educating the rural masses during her screening camps in the villages.
