FIRST IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERTER-DEFIBRILLATOR SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS MRI SCANS  

 

 

Till now, a major drawback of the ICD implants that were implanted was its interaction with MRI, thus affecting the functioning of the device.  Evera MRI SureScan implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) System, the first and only ICD system approved for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans positioned on any region of the body was recently implanted in a hospital in Gurgaon.

Until the availability of MR-Conditional ICD systems, patients with devices were denied  MRI scans because of potential interactions between the MRI and device function.This proved a major hindrance in treatment process of various other ailments.

But now patients implanted with an Evera MRI defibrillator can have improved access to one of the most important diagnostic tools – the MRI. It has a contoured shape with smooth edges, fitting nicely inside the body with a long battery life of upto 11 years.

The device is also loaded with a Smart Shock technology that enables the device to better differentiate between dangerous and harmless heart rhythms, thus helping to eliminate the inappropriate shocks. It also monitors and identifies patients at risk of worsening heart failure and atrial fibrillation.
