Swine flu caused major morbidity and mortality in the country during last year.The country’s first indigenous vaccine, Vaxiflu-S, to counter influenza A H1N1, also known as swine flu has now been officially launched into the Indian market at the cost of Rs.350 only. It provides immunity for one year, and can be used  by people in the age group of 18 to 60 years. It is available at all chemist shops and can be purchased by a registered doctor’s prescription.

It cannot be used in children, elderly and pregnant women.  Till now the vaccines were imported and were highly priced at Rs 900-Rs.1000.  Vaxiflu-S has been introduced by Cadila healthcare and 3 more companies are expected to launch it in coming months.
