Having graduated from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, I moved to the UK in 1999 and underwent postgraduate surgical training (2 years of Basic Surgical training, 2 years of Surgical Oncology research and 6 years of Higher Surgical training sub-specialising in Gastrointestinal, Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery). I successfully obtained the CCT (certificate of completion of UK training) in Feb 2011 and took up the post of Consultant Surgeon in the National Health Service, England. My Higher Surgical training included a variety of complex Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Colorectal Surgical operations with special emphasis on Minimal Access Surgery. I have had the privilege of working under nationally and internationally renowned Gastrointestinal and Bariatric surgeons. I have also undergone Robotic Surgical training at the Minimal Access Centre of University College Hospitals, London.
I hold Fellowships from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I also hold Fellowship in Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery from the International College of Surgeons, Chicago, USA. I have also obtained a Masters (MSc) from the University of Hull, East Yorkshire. As a Consultant Surgeon in UK, I trained a number of surgeons on the Yorkshire basic and higher surgical training programme. I am currently an examiner for the Intercollegiate MRCS exams conducted by the Royal College Of Surgeons. I have presented in a number of surgical conferences in Europe, USA and Asia. I also have to my credit a number of peer-reviewed articles published in international journals.
After nearly 14 years in UK, I returned to India in September 2013 and am currently practising as a Consultant Gastrointestinal, Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai.
