Procedure : APPENDICECTOMY LAPAROSCOPIC
ABOUT APPENDICECTOMY LAPAROSCOPIC:
Surgical removal of Appendix is termed as Appendicectomy. Appendix is a finger like organ located at the beginning of the large intestine on the right side of abdomen. Appendix has no role to play in human body. It requires removal when it becomes infected (also known as Appendicitis), inflamed or perforated. It should be removed as early as possible to prevent any complications. The surgery is performed using a laparoscope. The incision is small as compared to the open route, giving it an aesthetic value but is costlier due to the type of instruments used. It is done under spinal or general anaesthesia. In cases of perforation, a drain is temporarily left in the abdomen post surgery to collect drainage of pus, secretions, etc. It is a commonly done procedure and the patient is often a child. This procedure is done by a General Surgeon or Laparoscopic surgeon or Gastroenterology surgeon.
