Procedure : ERCP (ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIO PANCREATOGRAPHY)
ABOUT ERCP (ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIO PANCREATOGRAPHY):
This is a procedure done to examine the duodenum, ampulla of vater, bile ducts, gall bladder and pancreatic duct through a long flexible tube inserted from mouth. Contrast material is injected via a cannula into the bile duct and pancreatic duct and x-rays are taken to identify any pathology like stone, tumor,etc. It can also be used to take biopsy, remove stones, insert stents, etc. It can thus be diagnostic or therapeutic in nature. It is performed by a Gastroenterology specialist.
