Procedure : DERMABRASION
ABOUT DERMABRASION:
This is a procedure where skin is first frozen and then a high speed rotary instrument with an abrasive wheel or brush is moved over the skin to remove the upper layer. This abrasive action improves the skin texture as a new layer from beneath is revealed which is smoother and blemish free. It is mainly used to remove the acne scars, pox marks, scars due to injury, tattoo scars, wrinkles, etc. It is not effective in removing pigmented birth marks, burn scars, moles, etc. Healing occurs in 7-10 days. The new skin which is pink in color, gradually develops the normal tone. Direct sun exposure should be avoided. In few cases, it might lead to uneven coloration, pigmentation, scars, infection, etc. Microdermabrasion is similar to Dermabrasion but abrades less deeply and thus recovery is faster. It uses aluminium oxide crystals or the new diamond tip instruments. It is effective only for superficial skin conditions like early photoaging, fine lines, etc. It does not have side effects like pigmentation and scarring as seen sometimes with procedures like Dermabrasion, Chemical peeling, Laser resurfacing, etc. These procedures are performed by a Dermatologist or a Cosmetic Surgeon.
