He completed his medical training by devoting 4 years to conducting research in movement disorders at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) and subsequently at The National Hospital for Nervous Diseases (Queen Square, London, UK). At present, Dr. Bhatt is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Grant Medical College and the J. J. Group of Hospitals, in Mumbai. He started the first movement disorder clinic in India, which specialises in looking after patients with Parkinson's disease, dystonia, tics, myoclonus, tremour and drug-related movement disorders. He started a lay society to help patients with Parkinson's disease, called the Parkinson's Disease Foundation of India and it is the largest and the most active society which looks after patients and their caregivers. Today, movement disorders have been established as a strong speciality in India and Dr. Bhatt has been responsible for three National Movement Disorder conferences to introduce and popularise this subject. He has more than 40 scientific papers to his credit. Under his leadership, the first patient in India received botulinum toxin treatment and now this therapy is available for simple to complex indications. The first deep brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson's disease was also done under his leadership. He has the largest neurological experience in performing various surgeries for movement disorders in this country.
