Procedure : LASER PROSTATECTOMY
ABOUT LASER PROSTATECTOMY:
Also known as :KTP (Potassium Titanyl Phosphate) Laser Prostatectomy
It is one of the latest minimally invasive technique where laser is used to destroy the enlarged prostatic tissue, as in BPH. Through a cystoscope passed in urethra, a laser fibre is passed to vaporize the enlarged prostatic tissue, leaving a wide open area for urine to pass through. Entire prostate is not removed, only the area obstructing the flow is targeted. A rapid relief from symptoms is obtained, with lesser blood loss. It is done under local or general anaesthesia. One of its disadvantage is that the prostate is vaporised, so no tissue is available for histopathological analysis. The procedure is performed by a Urologist.
