Procedure : HEMODIALYSIS
ABOUT HEMODIALYSIS:
Dialysis is advised to patients of renal failure as part of renal replacement therapy. The blood is passed through a special filter/dialyzer unit, which cleans it of its impurities and returns it to the bloodstream. An arterio-venous fistula or a graft has to be created surgically prior to the procedure. Depending on the clinical condition of the patient, it is given 1-3 times/week or more and takes 4-5 hours for each session. It is given in hospital setting under supervision of a Nephrologist. Home dialysis is also available at few centres now.
