ABOUT THE DISEASE

An anal fissure is a tear in the lining of the anus (mucosa) or anal canal.

SYMPTOMS

• • Small amount of blood on the outside surface of stool
• • Painful bowel movements
• • Itching or irritation around the anus
• • Discomfort when urinating, frequent urination, or inability to urinate
• • Foul smelling discharge

CAUSES

- Passing large, hard stools
- Frequent diarrhea
- Constipation
- Inflammatory bowel disease such as crohn`s disease or ulcerative colitis
- Infections
- Anal sex

DIAGNOSIS

- Rectal examination

TREATMENT METHODS

- Take a more fibrous diet / fiber supplements, to soften the stool, making bowel movements easier.

- Sitz bath is recommended to help heal the tear, two to three times a day.

- Fissure Surgery (Fissurectomy)
