PENILE IMPLANT, A NEW HOPE FOR MEN SUFFERING FROM ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Few men suffering from erectile dysfunction are not benefited even by drugs like Viagra, thus being unable to enjoy conjugal bliss. This has a great impact on their relationships. Now, penile implants are giving new hope to thousands of men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. Penile reconstruction surgery was recently performed on 10 Gujaratis during the two-day Pen Recon-2014 conference in Ahmedabad city. These men suffering from erectile disorder were fitted with a penile prosthesis that will allow them to have normal sex lives. The most popular of these implants is AMS-700 series and spectra. AMS 700 Series is a three-piece inflatable implant. When the pump is squeezed, water flows from a reservoir to cylinder, fills it up and the man gets an erection. On squeezing  the pump again, fluid leaves cylinders and goes to the reservoir and the penis becomes flaccid. Spectra prosthesis provides simplified sizing, ease of positioning, cosmetic concealment and rigidity for intercourse. Men can bend it down when they're not having sex and pull it up when needed. Spectra implant costs less than Rs 3 lakh, while inflatable prosthesis is available at Rs 8 lakh depending on the category of hospital.
