TRIPLE ORGAN TRANSPLANT PERFORMED IN CHENNAI, A RARE FEAT ACHIEVED
Surgeons in Chennai city recently conducted a triple organ transplant in a patient with multi-organ failure. This is a rare feat achieved by Indian doctors as such surgeries are very complex.
Organs (liver, bowel and pancreas) were harvested from an 11-year-old road accident victim and were transplanted as an entire set to one of the patients.
Among all, Intestinal transplant is one of the most challenging and the least performed intra-abdominal organ transplants across India. However, with improved techniques and expertise, it is being attempted in more number of patients.
