I GOT A DEANERY TRANSFER TO THE EAST-ANGLIA REGION (JAN' 15TH 2005) AND STARTED WORKING IN THE ADDENBROOKE'S HOSPITAL, CAMBRIDGE. I BECAME A PART-TIME TRAINEE (60% JOB SHARE) FROM NOVEMBER 2007. MY TRAINING IN ADDENBROOKES INVOLVES MANAGING PATIENTS IN ALL BRANCHES OF HAEMATOLOGY AND I HAVE BEEN AN ACTIVE TEAM LEADER AND KEY MEMBER IN BOTH THE IN-PATIENT AND OUT-PATIENT MANAGEMENT OF: HAEMATOLOGICAL MALIGNANCIES INCLUDING ACUTE & CHRONIC LYMPHOID AND MYELOID MALIGNANCIES AND MULTIPLE MYELOMA, HAVING ALSO ENROLLED PATIENTS INTO PHASE II AND PHASE III CLINICAL TRIALS WHEN AVAILABLE. MYELOPROLIFERATIVE DISORDERS. THIS WORKING EXPERIENCE SAW ME TREATING PATIENTS WITH POLYCYTHAEMIA VERA, ESSENTIAL THROMBOCYTOSIS, MYELOFIBROSIS AND RARER MYELOPROLIFERATIVE DISORDERS SUCH AS SYSTEMIC MASTOCYTOSIS. MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROMES. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS SEEN ME MANAGING PATIENTS WITH MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROMES AND APLASTIC ANAEMIA. GENERAL NON-MALIGNANT HAEMATOLOGY INCLUDING MANAGEMENT OF HAEMOGLOBINOPATHIES AND CYTOPENIAS. THROMBOPHILIAS, INCLUDING THROMBOPHILIC DISORDERS IN PREGNANCY, TOGETHER WITH ALL SORTS OF BOTH COMMON AND RARE BLEEDING DISORDERS. BLOOD TRANSFUSION. I WAS AN ACTIVE KEY MEMBER OF BOTH THE HOSPITAL TRANSFUSION TEAM AND HOSPITAL TRANSFUSION COMMITTEE, ATTENDING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE RESPECTIVE MEETINGS. TRANSPLANT MEDICINE. I HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR IN- AND OUT-PATIENT CARE OF PATIENTS UNDERGOING BOTH AUTOLOGOUS AND ALLOGENIC BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTS. PAEDIATRIC HAEMATOLOGY. THIS ASSIGNMENT SAW ME INVOLVED IN MANAGING MALIGNANT AND NON-MALIGNANT PAEDIATRIC CASES.
Experience Summary:
Consultant in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn from February 2011. The haematology department is providing Level 2a Service for haematology and Haemato-Oncology. We deal with a wide range of General Haematology and Haemato-Oncology cases. CONSULTANT EXPERIENCE June 2009 to Sept' 2009 Locum Consultant – Haematology Working 2 PA Per week to cover Consultant Absence. Mainly clinic cover provision only West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust Bury St. Edmunds. Jan'2010 Onwards I completed my CCT in Haematology in Cambridge and I was appointed as a Consultant in Bedford Hospital. As a Clinical lead, I set up a fully functioning Haematology Unit at the Bedford Hospital. I was leading the clinical haematology unit including the Hospital Transfusion committee, Hospital thrombosis committee and Haematology clinical Governance meeting. Bedford Hospital NHS Trust,Bedford. HAEMATOLOGY EXPERIENCE Consultant – Haematology, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn & Bedford Hospitals NHS Trust, Bedford. I have been a Consultant Haematologist for more then 2 years and I treat all types of Haemato-oncology cases and General Haematology cases including bleeding disorders and Transfusion services. I also have BMT experience – both auto and allo-graft from the Tertiary Units of UK in Cambridge and Bristol. Clinically, my job involves assessment, diagnostic work-up (including reading Blood films and Bone Marrow biopsies), chemotherapy administration for my Haemato-oncology patients. I am the Clinical lead for Haemato-oncology services – apart from the clinical management; I am also involved in writing up the protocols and policies for the management and chemotherapy for the Haemato-oncology patients.
